For years I always wanted a longhaired, bighorned, neck beard pygmy goat. So I got a six month old buck pygmy goat. He is now 1 year and 6 months old with short, silky hair and a goatee beard. Sad. Is it just that he is young or he will stay like that forever? Please help

Hi and

Did you see his father? Whether or not he'll grow a mane depends on genetics for the most part. Some males only grow beards, which he already has. He's a bit young for a mane yet, still just a kid.

Within 2 years or so you'll likely see the full extent of his mane growing capacities expressed, as prime adult state is around 2 years old and onwards.

Best wishes.

Hi,

Chooks4life is right. the male pygmy I had several years back, grew a beard early on and his hair did not start getting longer until he was about 2 - 2 1/2 years old.
