Goat Slaughtering

Quote:
You know, I pictured myself hanging it and then slitting it's throat but I am so liking I can shoot it from behind. I was nervous about it before but I think I can handle that method!

Thank you very much.

You will want help. It can get pretty unpleasant if the animal moves at the last minute and you have a badly placed shot as a result.

One thing about doing it from behind, you don't have to have them looking you in the eyes. Never freaked me much to look them in the eyes, but after having them around and feeding, petting them you start to wish it was someone else doing that part.

Storey's recommends shooting it in the back of the head so not to frighten it with the barrel of the gun. Or, use a hammer to give it a quick, sharp blow to the head to render it unconscious and then slit the jugulars to let it bleed out.
Either way, seems like I would want an experienced person to help me out the first time. I've never dispatched a goat but I imagine it could be unpleasant if anything went wrong.

My husband is skilled and will be helping me, he's done it before. But since I wanted to be the one to do it (I feel I need the experiences) I wanted to study up on it properly first. I might have him do one and do the other - but for some reason I can't watch, I can only do. So I prefer to be the first one to have a go.

The gun to the back of the head is an excellent idea, especially since I'm a pretty decent shot. (aww no gun shootin' smiley)

75 free pounds of goat! SCORE!
