Goats and sheep on half a acre

There are a lot of weeds and things that they will eat and unless they are starving, they will normally avoid what they shouldn't because it tastes bad. Just don't take them out when they are too hungry, at least at first. Sometimes I go around and find field weeds and bring them home for my sheep... They love Purslane, Amaranthus Spinosus (Spiny Pigweed), and wild lettuce, dandelions, thistles of various kinds... If you google these plants you can find pictures of them that will help you identify them. Around a lake, they will eat watercress and wild lettuce, they like any clover type weed if you find some of that growing somewhere and will eat most grasses (horsetail grass is not really a grass at all and is poisonous).

Found out the hard way young ones get curious and very sick. They’re ok now. So I keep an eye out and but do generally keep away. 1/2 acre is small for that amount. You might want to just access how everything would work before hand. ALOT of forage gets taken down quick

That is true, and even with just 3 animals, you cannot expect to take them out and hope to feed them solely off the land. You will have to buy feed for them. But they do well on a lot of different things, will cleanup almond orchards after the harvest and olive orchards too. Expecting them to eat reeds and bulrushes is not a good idea... For the most part, if the deer don't eat something, the sheep shouldn't either.
