Goats for Sale??!!

I have some wethers I'll make you a good deal on. Mini lamancha and mini boar lamancha mutt mix. Only ended up with one girl and 5 boys. So I have 4 boys to sell. I'm down by Macon, but ask away and I'll answer your goat questions. They are fairly low maintenance but they are good escape artists if the grass is literally greener somewhere else.

I want goats too! We need them for brush clearing!! I'm in sunny California, it was 88 degrees here today. Perfect huh? Yes! A neighbor up the hill raises goats and sheep and I visited the babies! I want goats now so bad!

We got 4 goats last year. And when people say they eat everything they mean everything! We thought we'd plant them shade trees. Nope. They ate $500 in trees last year. They also chewed on my barn...

The one thing nobody told me is that Billies stink. Pretty gnarly. I thought I wanted to get a female and breed so I kept 2 in tact. Kind of regretting that some days.

We also did not de-nub them. It's a you do or dont subject. 2 of ours are naturally that way. The one that we have who likes to get aggressive I'm grateful for his horns. Grab them and push/pull him. However I've been caught by them before. It wasn't pleasant.

Also, use a 2×4 wire fencingnor a good sturdy chain link. They can get through/around/under rails. The 2x4 keeps them from getting stuck.

Ok! Let me talk to my family and get back to you!

They won't be ready for three more weeks anyway. And I won't have hurt feelings if you'd rather have does. ;-)

I like fias farms website when it comes to goat info. They really break it down.

I want goats. My neighbor's kids want me to have goats. But my wife doesn't want me to have goats. I have a goat problem.

I have tried everything. Having her watch cute videos, slowly working on her, nothing. I tried a reasoned practical approach, eating overgrown sections of the property. Everything. It's like she has a goat wall up. No matter how reasoned my approach is....and there have been several....nothing. As a last resort, I tried the "don't worry I will take care of everything, you won't have to feed or water or anything"....she didn't buy it.

I thought about surprising her with goats, like for a birthday present. That worked for a puppy 40 years ago, it might work again. I need to put more thought in it.

I will have goats, it is just harder than I thought it would be.

I grew up with goats and have coveted them since I moved back on to property. The plan is to build a barn this summer and then GOATS!!! The mini Lamancha is my goat of choice. My favorites growing up were always the Lamancha wethers, an all around great breed though I don't think the minis were even in existence when I was a kid :)
There are a few things that really stuck with me about the goats....

They got out. All the time. They busted boards to escape and eat the veggie garden. In retrospect, I don't think we had adequate fencing.

They hated the rain. In western Washington, that is just not something I can get away from so having a solid shelter with space is a must for me.

Their feet need work, especially in my maritime climate. Good practice to always keep their hooves trimmed.

Regular worming.

Our goats did NOT keep the grass down all that well. They preferred browsing. We kept sheep to keep the grass clipped. They were much better at that.

My goats would not eat treats that they saw fall on the ground. Delicious strawberry? Nope. Not if they saw it fall. I would try tricking them and they always knew. It was crazy! Has anyone else experienced this?

Entertainment. They are clever turds and need stimulation. We spent a lot of time playing with our kids and always had spools and various climbing "goat furniture" for them.

Our Lamancha goats also really enjoyed the company of our Conure. We didn't clip his wings so he would fly around outside and developed quite the friendship with the goats. He would ride them. He picked their ears for them, when he wanted down, he would rattle their little collars and they would lower their legs and he would climb down. When it was time to milk, he'd sit on the fence and wait for his squirts.

In my opinion, they are so worth it. I can't wait to have goats again!

@Mylied - do you have pics to share???

The only time my goats have gotten out of the fence since we built a study, regular fence, was when my donkey learned how to undo the chain on the gate. :p Now we have to clip the gate closed.

Here's some pics of goats. You can see more pics of random animals I have on my facebook farm page. It's just a for fun page. Sometimes I'll say animals are for sale, but mostly I just post pictures. https://www.facebook.com/brethilfarm/
