We have 4 chickens, 2 of which are currently laying and the other will probably laying within a month.

In the next several months we have some vacations planned. I would love to hear about how people get chicken sitters And what they have them do on what kind of timetable. Right now they go through their water in about 2 to 3 days. And their feed in about three days as well Although that is with some free range time every day.

Can we have someone come every other day to check on them? Or do we run the risk of them breaking their eggs and end up causing more problems for us in the end?

I appreciate any and all advice :)

There is petsitters site for animal care. What I have done in the past is to find a babysitter who lives close by or passes nearby daily, perhaps going to and from school. There are girls at church who babysit, so are reputable and reliable.

I haven't yet done this for the chickens, but have for caring for my dogs. She was hired to stop by once daily going to or from the high school down the street. She was to ensure that the dogs had a full bucket of water and to feed them their raw meat. The dogs stayed outside all the time while we were gone, so she did not have to let them in and out of the house.

The neighbors reported that she usually stopped by twice daily and played with dogs as well. I paid her $10 per day for her services.

You might consider a neighbor who could check up daily, and keep the eggs as partial payment. We have many retired folks living around here, so that may be an option.

I would prefer that someone checked up on them daily.
