Going Rate?

So I've been selling chicks since I was a freshman in high school...so 6 years now...I don't really have any problems selling chicks and now with Craigslist I sell quite a bit quickly, but I had a guy e-mail be about Buffs tonight wanting 40 or so chicks, they are day old-1 week and I told him $3 each, he resonds with thats too high, so I said make an offer, I understand that, that many chicks one should get a reduced price, so I say make an offer, he tells me he'll give me $60, so thats $1.50 which is the 'going rate'? I have been selling Buffs, Comets, RIR, and Rocks for that price for 2 months and havnt had anyone complain one bit? Hatcheries are sold out and we are really the only one's selling, sooo am I too high? or? this is the first time this has happened to me so any input would help

I would $1.50 each for that many. Seriously. We plan on selling ours for $3 if they buy 10 or under, barter for more....

he cant touch them for that at a hatchery, plus shipping and all. I would go no less then 2.00 ea, he can either take em or leave them. Thats just me tho..............

If you are selling them at 3 with no problem simply do not sell to him.
It sounds like you have plenty of other buyers....

You price at what the market will bear, just as Farrier says. If you can get $3/bird w/o any problems, keep selling them at that price.

If you want to give this guy a volume discount (remember: each transaction costs you time) then do so at a price you think is fair. $60 must seem too low for you or you wouldn't have posted here. Negotiate with him. I'm sure he didn't expect you to accept 50%.

Thanks guys, idk this guy just had some attitude to him and it didnt set that well w/ me, kinda like you and your prices are stupid...he also thought that $5 was too much for 9 week old Comet Pulletts? I understand that I dont have to sell to him, but just one of those things thats stays in your mind i guess...

He just might be one to stay well away from. Odds are even if you lower your price all he will do is bad mouth you to everyone. Go with your feelings.
It really sounds like you are doing great and have a great reputation. You need to keep it.......Lots better to have him grumbling about not getting birds then telling everyone how bad they were even at half price.
