Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Is there any way to return that coop? It's too small for your planned flock. Unless you are just using it for the first 6 weeks to brood the chicks then it's fine.
Dobie said What I was going to.. Welcome to Backyard Chickens we are a knowing but honest bunch here .. hardware cloth is the only good part of it Please try to return it you cannot put more then 2 full size birds in it yes they lie
Thanks for the info! I probably can return it- esp since they will be in our house for a bit till they are big enough for coop life. What brand/style would you recommend? A couple of my friends who raise hens thought it would be ok since they will be free ranging in our large yard most of the day.

Oh man- the one we got is 4x7. I will investigate returning!

I have more immediate needs right now in terms of brooding them. Originally, we were planning to get older coop ready chicks- but WOW- chickens are a hot commodity right now with shelter in place going on. It was a major coup for me to get these from a local feed store.
From what I am reading- Sooooooo many different ways to do it. My friend recommended the red neck brooder box? Basically a Rubbermaid, couple of seed mats, towels, etc. looks like a pretty simple setup- but does anyone have experience or suggestions using that method?

Thx
