Going to show off my ignorance!

I figured it was such. It really is funny how even though our countries are close, our birds and their availability can be drastically different!

I LOVE all the replies! Thank you!

My new flock won't be mixing with the old flock. My hubby doesn't seen the "need" to have "purty" chickens so I said he could have the others and I'd get my own!

While I've seen so many gorgeous roos, no roos allowed here. Hubby has an extreme dislike for fertilized eggs.

ha ha that's awesome!

His and Hers flocks! So, what kinds are you getting?

And he knows the difference HOW exactly??

There is no difference in taste and/or nutrition between a non-fertile and a fertilized egg. None. Absolutely none. And unless he has a truly unusual fear of single, tiny, white bulls-eyes on each egg yolk, I can't imagine what other fact about fertile eggs would provide basis for anybody's distaste.

There is usually a tale behind someone's extreme dislike for something. Not asking for one, just making an observation.

So true. People have some very odd ideas about fertilized eggs. My neighbor said he thought it would be like "eating an abortion." Please! The difference is only a few cells. I know you wouldn't at all be surprised at the other objections I've heard about them. The general public is so misinformed. I must be strange, I never did think there was anything wrong with them so long as they hadn't been allowed to develop before you made breakfast.

Have yall see the thread about hatching eggs from the grocery? It happens.

So.... that poor hubby has probably BEEN eating fertilized eggs on a fairly regualar basis and didn't suspect a thing. <he he he>

Probably aught to not say anything to him... might put him off eggs entirely.

SE Kansas isn't that far from central Oklahoma.
I have Delaware, Australorps, Silver Laced Wyandottes, Columbian Wyandottes, Black Sex Link, Rhode Island Red, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Blue Cochin, and Buff and Black Minorcas. All but the Minorcas lay brown eggs.
All are great layers and take our extremes in temperature very nicely. All are nice meat birds and I collect between 18 and 24 eggs a day. I do run lights for 2 hours in the early morning and two hours in the evening.
I run three roosters with the flock of 35 hens: a Blue Cochin, a SilverLaced Wyandotte and a Columbian Wyandotte. All of my boys and girls get along beautifully and offer a variety of color to please the eye.

If you buy chicks, socialize them and you will impact their overall temperament.
Good luck in your quest.
