today is the day my 11 FR are going in to be processed. I'm so excited, I had to tell someone.

It has been a long 12 weeks, I don't think I will be doing anymore FR, don't get me wrong they free ranged and love it, it's just that I was sick of them 2 to 3 weeks ago. This past two weeks they have been being annoying, they found the layer run and coop and waddle all around eating up all the food, no they are not that hungry, they still have food in their feeder. They are hard, to get to do, what you want them to, they do this waddle run thing, that makes it hard to catch, Its like the big kid being forced to play dodge ball and trying to dodge from being hit, that's what the FR look like when you try and get them out of the run. They run, well really they waddle very fast. They bite. Oh did I say they stink, well yeah they stink. Well, I gave them their final meal and thanked them for the sacrifice that they were about to give. I told them I know they had a fine life but TODAY IS THE DAY

We did that this spring and summer. We just were not fond of it. We found that as the day came closer, we dreaded it more. I found a processor that charges 2$ a bird bag. That is well worth not dealing with the kill.

I hope I can find a reaonable rate here. I have several months to search....but I would rather not deal with the whole messy process, not to mention I don't know what I'm doing!

I process my own birds - I completely control the entire process and I know how clean my birds stay and I know how the carcass is taken care of after the deed. There is huge personal satisfaction knowing you control everything - when it's YOUR food!

Yes, I'm sure it is! I have never even seen a chicken processed (but in pictures) and I'm scared to even try it. I'm lucky to even have had a dog growing up....so this whole thing is new to me. I'm hoping someday I might be able to try....but not quite yet. I have no problem eating my chickens.....
