Hi there! I got three gold comets from TSC that were supposedly pullets but I would like to have some fresh eyes check as well. From my understanding they're supposed to be sex linked. They're around six days old

Betty-Lou, though if I recall correctly she's supposed to be a Red comet

Any help is appreciated

Hmmm. Its really, really hard to tell at this age. Best time to tell is 4-6 weeks. I know its so hard to wait. I already really want to ask about my chicks... theyre 2.5 weeks old now.
Figured as much, not that it'll really affect me keeping them either way. I was wanting to get a cockerel at some stage to breed chicks so I could give some of the local, responsible, kids pet chickens!

Golden comet are sex linked which means you can tell the difference at hatch. They are a hybrid between two breeds in this case New Hampshire red rooster over white rock hen. The male chicks have yellow down and the female chicks down is more golden colored. I cannot really tell 100% in your photos, the chicks down color.
The males will feather in white and the females will feather in mostly brownish red with white under feathers.😊

Oh, sorry, I did not know that! Thank you for that information!

They all seem to have slightly more gold-ish down, thanks for clarifying that though! Most resources I found tended to stop at "Their color is the key" without explaining the color difference or how to spot it!

Gold comets, red comets.... They're all sex links. This means that males are a specific color at hatch, and females are a specific color at hatch. You have all females. Males would be true yellow in color, not amber or orangish. It would be genetically impossible for these guys to be males.

Thanks, I've never had any sex linked chickens before so I just wanted to make doubly sure. My only experience has been with Rhode island reds and whites

I've had a gold sex link be a boy... He had the coloring of a girl too. Was trying to mount at 9 weeks old. Rambunctious little thing.
