I've had a gold sex link be a boy... He had the coloring of a girl too. Was trying to mount at 9 weeks old. Rambunctious little thing.

Sounds like he was improperly bred then. Sex linking only works on first generation, and none following. Your roo sounds like he was somebody's attempt at breeding sex link to sex link.
There is no way scientifically that a first generation red sex link male would be the same color as the females.

Yeah, I wasn't too happy to learn that my "for sure girls" didn't mean that there'd be no boys.
Granted, I did get them from TSC. So the hatchery might've had a mixup or something or they bred sex links together.
