I purchased some pullets at a local feed store that were labeled as Dark Copper Marans. They have feathered feet so I assume they are the French variety. Now that they have matured they do lay very dark eggs, although not as dark some photos I have seen. The first eggs were darker but now they have lightened up a bit. But the confusing thing is that their coloration is gold laced. The gold lacing is very similar to a Gold Laced Wyandotte. Apart from body shape they look the same. So I'm wondering about gold lacing in Marans chickens.

I'm also wondering what might happen when I cross these with a Buff Brahma. I'm not concerned with egg production. I just keep chickens because they add ambiance to this property and if I can come up with a nice looking cuuiousity all the better.

These are gorgeous, though they look like gold laced Cochins to me.😊
If you got them at a feed store this is most likely. Possible some breeders are working on GL Marans as a project color, but unlikely they would be available via a hatchery that supplies chicks to feed stores/TSC.
Your birds also have yellow feet. Marans have pink/white legs and feet.😊

Absolutely gorgeous Golden Laced Cochins

Thank you. Gold Lace Cochin makes sense and it wouldn't matter to me as I'm just playing and not trying to breed to a standard. And having now searched the web for Golden Laced Cochins I'm finding birds that look just like mine. However, I'm getting dark eggs. I'll post an egg photo in a day or two.

Did you get pictures of egg color?
Did you find out which Hatchery the Feed Store ordered from?
Was putting in my chick orders for 2022 and would like nice coloring ones like yours. 😊

If you have them from a feed store, someone could have wanted to buy these GL chicks, and changed their minds, then the cashier could have said to the stock boy, put these back. The GL brooder box could have been empty at that point so they put the chicks in the same brooder as Marans, and if you chose these from that brooder, you chose them because they are interesting looking, which they are.

Sorry it took me a while to answer but here is a photo of the dark eggs I am getting from these gold laced cochins. Colors in photos and on monitors will vary but this looks accurate to me on my Microsoft Surface 3 screen. The lighter eggs could be from black or gray cochins or from a buff brahma. The hen sitting on these is a buff brahma.

I can't remember which Wilco Farm Supply store I purchased the chicks from in the Portland, Oregon area.
