Golden Comet Chickens, HELP!

What beautiful birds!!! I want more!!! Even though it's only been 2 1/2 wks since we got them, I want more...but I better stick to 6 for right now...

Thanks bearswampchick.......Nice pics. I do love those light colored ones. I wonder if it was yours i saw pics of on here since you are the only person that seems to have them. They are pretty!!!!

I have a red folgers coffee container that i use to bring them treats in. They would follow me to the ends of the earth if i have that in my hand. But they need to grow up for a while and figure things out. We all felt the way you are feeling at one point.....hang in there

Don't give up, just be patient with the, and they will come around. Mine are now 7 1/2 weeks and just starting to become more friendly with me. Most still do not want to be touche but they do like it when I go and sit in the pen with them and talk to them. Most will come very close and do the gentle pecks at me or sit very close with me. You need to build trust with them. I do not usually offer treats to them but do give them a little something for breakfast usually ceareal or cooked vegies with a touch of yougurt over it or oatmeal. I think they have really gotten used to me by knowing that I will feed them and just by sitting in the pen and being with them, it wil get better I promise. Out of 10 chickens now I only have 2 that will let me hold them or jump in my lap. Trudy

Wow, you lucked out. Golden Comets are much bettter layers than RIR. They are by far my favorite chickens. They lay jumbo eggs contiuously through the winter. You are going to be very pleased with them. It's not unusual to get an egg a day from your comets.

Thats wonderful news...mine aren't that into us either. When we go to pick them up they squeal at the top of their lungs. I figured it was because of the cat. With putting them outside in a cage for the past two days during the day and in at night where Fiesty can't be around them, I am hoping they will become more attached. Last night it was so funny, they had never had the light off. We turned off the lights and they screamed to the tops of their lungs. And when the light came back on they calmed down. But, I told my daughter to keep it off cause there's no lights in their soon to be coop and they needed to get used to it. After about 10 minutes they were calm and remained that way all night. All of them are growing so fast except one, Bubbles, she is the smallest and is developing later than the rest. She still doesn't know how to fly while the rest fly our of our nads into the cages. I hope she catches up.
