When I bought my first 12 pullet chicks a few years ago one of the three "Araucanas" turned out to be a cockerel. He grew into the sweetest, most handsome multicolored rooster I've ever seen, but he was unfortunately killed by a predator when he was only a year old and left no descendants. In researching Easter Eggers (which I know he was), I've been having a lot of difficulty finding one that resembles him, and the closest I've come is a picture of a silver duckwing Ameracauna roo. Is the golden duckwing variety a rarity even among easter eggers? Is there a way of breeding for this color variant or is it an anomaly? I've had unrelated EE roos since him, but none that come close in appearance, and I would really love to have another like him!

EE are a cross breed chicken, they can come any color and for the most part will not breed true....

If you want Golden Duckwing EE's what you can do is --
(first cross) Take a male Silver Ameracauna and mate him with a female Brown Red Ameracauna
(young males black patterned yellow/golden duckwing and young females black patterned silver duckwing)

(second cross) Take a male Brown Red Ameracauna and mate him to a female Silver Ameracauna
(young males black patterned yellow/golden duckwing and young females black patterned gold duckwing )

(third cross) Take the male black patterned yellow/golden duckwing from the first cross and mate him the the females black patterned gold duckwing from the second cross
(young males black patterned gold duckwing and black patterned yellow/golden duckwing and the and young females black patterned silver duckwing and black patterned gold duckwing

(fourth cross) Take the male black patterned gold duckwing from third cross and mate him to the females black patterned gold duckwing from second and third cross....
(young males black patterned gold duckwing and young females black patterned gold duckwing )

The other way is a little quicker but may not be as "clean" --

(first cross) Take a male Brown Red Ameracauna and mate him to a female Silver Ameracauna
(young males black patterned yellow/golden duckwing and young females black patterned gold duckwing )

(second cross) Take the male Brown Red Ameracauna from first cross and breed him to the females black patterned gold duckwing from his off spring
(young males black patterned gold duckwing and young females black patterned gold duckwing )
