Golden Laced Polish, Pullet or Roo??

The 2 on the right look like our Tina Turner now Tom Jones. The one on the left has sort of an Afro. I am not an expert but I think that is your hen. We wanted to have only 1 roosters and got 3 roosters!

We had to put one of our sweet little Barred Rock hens down. She became paralized on one side for no reason other then it happened during our real hot spells. We believe she had a heat stroke or maybe just a stroke. She was still laying eggs but on the floor. She could not get around. The poor dear, we could not do the job. I took her in my car and she sat on the front seat and rode like a little queen to where a friend did it. I held her and cried and told her it will be all right and we loved her so very much. He said he made it quick so she felt no pain. I cried for days and I still miss our little Barbie Mandarell.

If you ever have some Polish hens you could spare to a good neighbor, please let me know. We are in Central MN. We gave a beautiful Golden Laced Rooster away, (T Jones), and a beautiful Silver Laced Wynndotte rooster, (Jacque la Cock).

You want the very best for them and love them since you raised them since only days old. They both went to kind family with 40 hens. I hear the hens and the roosters are very happy.

I am so sorry about your Barbie.

We had a badly injured hen that no matter what we did, she just wasn't doing well. We had to put her down as well. It's hard when it's a pet.

My fingers are crossed that I have more than one hen, I hatched these little ones and am so attached to all of them already. But I can only keep one roo from each the golden and the silver laced. I spend more time checking them over, just praying not to see streamers and long saddle feathers. It's killing me!

So far we have the Buff Ophington is our favorite breed. Then the California Rocks. Barbie was special as a Barred Rock because she was a runt. Now with foresight she was weak also. Her hen buddy is Bacon. I can tell she misses her. She now lays her eggs on the floor by the door just like Barbie did. She must really miss her.

My DH says that I am crazy over my girls, but I catch him cooing and giving treats when he thinks I'm not looking.

My favorite are the polish, the silkies are catching up because they are so snuggly. DH prefers the eggers because they aren't "spastic" like my polish. I love them because they are!

And yes, I was back out there staring at little crests again this morning.

One is trying to crow already. Of course as soon as I look to see who it is, he stops. I'll be out there early tomorrow morning, coffee cup in hand, waiting....
