Golden pheasant genetics

Over our 50+ years of working with Amherst and Goldens (all pheasants) we have had Whiteherst
almost Black and Gray/Silver Lady Amherst we got hit by a (MINK) 17 years ago and killed some of are lines we had going to true

Woah thats a long time , i never heard of any of those colors before are they mutations ? Oh no :/ they are absolutely the worst one wiped out most of my flock 12 years or so ago so i quit having birds till now , its a sin that they killed some of your lines breeding true :/

I too have been raising/breeding pheasants for 55 years! Actually have raised/bred pheasants, quail, ducks, geese, partridges, prairie chickens, Emu's, doves, song birds, cranes and raptors throughout those years....but this by no means makes me an expert!

So little is actually known of pheasant genetics, other than a few studies done by academics on the common Ringnecked pheasant....the reason?... No commercial value in Ornimental pheasants. Most but not all the mutations have occured naturally or the crosses being developed by amateur aviaist...most of which, did not document how they achieved the birds or the occurence of the 'mutation' or 'cross'.

I had some interesting looking birds derived from Elliot x Copper pheasants, Reeves x Copper and Versicolor x Kirghiz with various degrees of success in fertility and vigor.

This is what I was hoping to achieve by crossing Amherst with Yellow golden. The problem is the Amherst gene's are very dominate...as is evident with Amherst x Golden crosses.

I believe this bird was developed by a breeder in the Philippines?
Another 'mutation' or a product of selective breeding is a 'dark colored Amherst', I think they were developed in Indonesia?

There is also a 'light', 'dilute' or Silver colored Amherst, also bred or developed in Indonesia, same breeder?

Oh shoot thats a long time , now that sounds really cool i always wanted to try raising emus myself , i currently raise a variety of pheasants, quails , turkey , chickens , gunieas , and ducks but the goldens and melanstic and the scale family quail are probably my favourite game birds i own right now , thats probably the only thing i dont like about goldens I absolutely love the birds just not how hard it is to find the exact mutations or information you want im probably going to run a series of tests and document my findings over a few year period ( like down color , juvenile and adult color ) what pairing was done and if it was inbred or not , from my understanding i have to inbreed some alot to get certain colors ? Id say those looked amazing , i saw a elliot for the first time a few weeks ago what a beautiful bird, now that bird is beautiful i would definitely like to own it as well , certainly they all do im definitely going to have to try inbreeding some lady amherst to see for mutations ( probably hatch a few to keep on my farm till i get my other goldens and Lady Amherst and see if i can land on some mutations

Oh...slipped my feeble mind, also raised/bred turkeys(wild Rio Grande), guineas, Blacktailed White Japanese, Millie Fleur and Silver Duckwing Bantams, and Parrots. Also Chacalacas!

Woah those are all cool breeds i never heard of the chacalacas before those look pretty cool too . A mink wiped out my original flock years ago but I decided to finally give it a go again now that im in a half better location. I used to have a single golden pheasant ( male ) , trio of small ringnecks, Bobwhite quail ( small and jumbo) , wild turkeys they calls em here and rouens , i think the fanciest chickens i had were a araucana, delaware , golden laced polish . I started again when i moved to a new location that was abit less mink populated ( the small ringnecks and jumbo Bobwhite and goldens seem to have disappeared if not completely gone in those years :/ ) this time i raise wild turkeys ( unsure what they actually are) , midget whites , jumbo ringnecks, black melanstics, yellow goldens and red , yellow and Lady Amherst ordered , blue scaled quail ? , gambels quail , coutrnix quail( various colors ) , chickens i have black copper marans, mille fleurs ( standard color? And porcelain, amerucanas , silkies , old English, heritage buff Orpingtons , spitzhauben, and the seramas

I plan on selectively breeding the ringnecks and Bobwhite when / if i can find them again, i want to try and bring back the breeds i see / seen disappear already

Ah Ratites I loved are Emus and Rheas man did it get NUTS
Or as I we say the good old days we always had Emus had just got into Rheas
and 2 years latter the market started to go up at first it was sure we have some for sale
then it hit . Emu eggs 3,000. comeing2s 20,000 pair breeders 40,000+
Rheas 500-1000 an egg we had grays and whites you can get 20 eggs a pair
I miss having them they are so smart and just fun to have around
