Do Golden pheasants "roost"I want to buy some to let free range most of the time but do not know if they will stay around the house and go back to the pen or should I just keep them in the pen? By the way is there anyone that sells them in north Fl close to lake city, Fl? Thanks

Yes they do roost, Mine do every night except hen sitting on eggs. I have not let mine out of pen yet but I am going to with my new chicks. went to a guys house who has many breeds of pheasants and he lets the easier and less expensive breeds out in the yard. He locks them in at night.

I have raised pheasants for over 28 years and have never had a pheasant that escaped stick around.I don't think you can free range them, but you can try.
Good luck,Tony.

I am thinking of trying maybe with some red goldens but not any others. Tony, wow you have been raising pheasants for some years. Hope to say that myself someday. Bet you have some stories.

i had a friend that wanted to free range them. He did, and they scattered to the forest at the edge of his property:/ I would keep them in their cage. They do roost, bye the way.

OH I FORGOT TO MEANTION..... IF FLORIDA FISH AND GAME EVER FINDS OUT YOU FREE RANGE ANY GAMEBIRD THEY WILL PUT YOU UNDER THE JAIL---- THEY DONT HAVE MUCH SENSE OF HUMOR ABOUT RELEASING EXOTICS, ESPECIALLY AFTER ALL THE MEDIA HOOPLA WITH OUR RECENT "SNAKE" SEASON THAT WAS JUST ADDED....
