Golden Wyandotte age of egg laying

Also I forgot to add are there any signs or signals that she will lay eggs soon
Chickpea's comb and wattles have grown and are turning red, which is a sign that she is nearing laying age. Some of the heavier heritage breeds like Wyandottes start laying later than the hybrids bred for egg production so it could be 6-8 months. Mine that just started laying is 6-6-1/2 months old. YMMV :)

Thank for the info 😊 is her comb supposed to get bigger I know her wastrels are about there but is her comb a little small and do you happen to know what that little bump thing is

I don't know if this is exactly what you mean, but bot my GLW and SLW have little unicorn horns about 1/2 a cm long at the back of where their comb should be growing. on my GLW it is starting to merge into the comb, so I assume it is just a starting point for the comb :)

One "Onset of Lay" is more like a strong suggestion than a date you can mark on the calendar. It varies by bird, and with light levels, often given as a range of (typically) four weeks when most birds (51%+) of the breed are typically expected to begin laying.

Two"Best Indicators" are reddening of the comb, "squatting" behaviors (even when a rooster is not present in the flock), inspecting nest boxes, and egg song practice. Which depending on bird (again) may preceed laying by (anecdotally) four to ten days.

I've not had GLWs. My SLWs began laying between 24 and 28 weeks. One might have gone to 30 weeks. Length of day was a contributing factor, their start of lay was near the dead of winter.

Just curious, how big do their combs get before they lay, because I have heard a lot of people saying they turn red and get bigger. Turning red is pretty straightforward, but how close to the comb's final size will it get before they lay?

That’s what I was thinking to but she is 5 months do think her comb is to small for her age 🧐

Here's a photo of one of my laying SLWs from a few months ago, she'd been laying about 5 months at that point, so there's already some fade evident in the comb and shanks, but maybe it helps for size. Weight just north of 4# at the time of this photo, I believe.

Wyandottes often start laying later than others. Give it time it will happen. Soon before she starts laying her comb will become bright red, and she will start nesting all over the place. She will just lay around in nesting position wherever she sees fit. Then before you know it you'll get some eggs!

Everyone is getting excited I see. My gals turns nine in October. One thing I will share is when we picked up more chicks this year and last our Wyandottes came out of retirement to start laying again. My avatar is the lighter color one than the dark one. Our favorites.
