I have now gathered my 2nd egg. One today and one the 12th, which has been normal for my girls over the past few years. My youngest hen is laying though, so I am not 100% that they are fertile. I haven't seen her mate but after seeing this 2nd egg now, I am convinced she is probably paired.

She won't be a year until 5.02.2011, and the oldest male I have will be a year 5.08.2011, but they are dancing the courtship dance. I have her with the dominant male and have been working my tail off to ensure that nothing goes awry. I am not sure if I want to hatch any this year, but it is like an addiction, seems I just have to

Sorry for the large photos & I really wish I had a photo of Penny's mom, I will keep looking. I'll also add some more photos when time permits.

Does anyone else have Golden's or any pheasant's laying?

Mine are not laying right now but one of my roosters is sure acting like a butt these days. I'm hoping for some eggs soon but if I go by previous years it won't be until late March. Good luck with your eggs. I know what you mean about not really wanting to set eggs. I hatched out MANY pheasants last year just for the fun of watching them grow and ended up giving a large quantity of them to someone else on the board. I may just do that again this year.

Edit to add - Beautiful birds by the way!

I now have two Golden hens laying. After 5 years or more, I have never actually caught any of them in the process and watch them drop the egg. Well today was my lucky day. I didn't get pictures of them laying (Boy I really wanted to but I sat perfectly still so they wouldn't get scared or whatnot) and it was a treat for me to see them lay. I have new pictures of my birds and I will post them tomorrow and the eggs as well.

I have 5 golden eggs now. I can see the incubator is going to be busy soon. It seems my girls are an every other day lay once they start. I still have two not laying but I think that will change soon. I just hope my "almost" one year old male is doing his job when I'm not around. I actually have peepers and his 1/2 brother in the same pen with 4 girls (no fighting as peepers runs and won't challenge - he is 4 weeks younger than his 1/2 brother, he is a scaredy pheasant) so I might get lucky with two males courting. Time will tell
