I have noticed the last couple days all my golf balls in the nest boxes on the floor. I went into the coop early this morning and just watched. I have 1 black australorp hen going into each nest box flipping out the golf balls then laying her egg in the box she uses every day. Any ideas why? I guess I will have to collect eggs earlier than normal
just to keep her from throwing out the other eggs. The hens are 22 weeks old and I only have 3 laying. 1 BA and 2 buff orps. 7 total. The buff orps use the same nest box and will wait on the roost in front of the nest box for her turn. To me this is strange behavior but this is all new to me. John

Perhaps she is smart enough to know they aren't eggs?

Unless she tosses the eggs out, I wouldn't worry. Maybe she's just not happy sitting on them when she lays. Besides, now she knows where to lay, no need for them anymore.
