Golf Balls

I have a mature flock of birds (12 total) that I have had together for about a month. They are all supposedly laying, but my egg count while over 100 for the month( not complaing yet) is ok , it is very sporadic 1 one day 8 the next , then 5 then 2 and so on. Does anyone think putting a few golf balls in the nest boxes might encourage more laying? Do chickens have to lay a egg if one is ready to come out or can they hold on too it till they want to lay it?

Well, they can't make themselves lay. It would be kinda like a woman controlling uh.. things. Or being able to hold off on having a baby. The golf balls do encourage them to lay where the golf balls are though, and if you've got some, it won't hurt.
