Golf balls?

I have golfballs and straw in the nesting boxes and some one is always kickin ball and straw out and laying in Bush out side. What could this mean
It could mean that you don't have a high enough front on the nest.

They are 5gallon buckets laide on there side with no lid about 6 inches of the ground

Take a lid and cut it about a third and stick it back on the rim of the bucket, this will help keep the bedding in the nests.

Ok thanks they are new to laying as they just turned twenty weeks yesterday so I hope they figure out where the eggs go soon

My most recent laying hen likes to knock out almost all the straw in the nesting boxes before she lays her egg. I might put up the divider I took out to make 4 nesting boxes onto 2 back to 4 with 9 hens. As 4-5 are about to all start very soon (squatting, egg song, red comb) with 4 more closely behind on age to start (17 -19 week old).

I was wondering, nesting boxe curtains? Any advice?

I'm hopeful this works! I put golf balls in earlier today (seemed like a good idea for pecking and laying). Had number 8 out of our first eggs cannibalized after putting it in the nest. The first seven were all laid in the proper place and untouched. Glad to hear I'm hopefully on the right track.

3 out of 4 of my hens are now laying and I was surprised to find that they laid their eggs in the nest box and I never got round to putting in a golf ball or a fake egg.
