Beautiful Jersey Shore Area
Hello friends
So now I have three groups in my flock. I fell victim to CHICKEN MATH! Oh the horror! Anyways I have had our girls for going on 4 years. We started with 4 ... 1 of each....Jubilee Orpington - Daisy, a black Americauana - The Bird, a RI and LH mix - Peeps, and a RI Barr mix - Lenny. The two mix breeds are still laying, and Lenny goes broody 1x every Summer. We bought the originals from Schuster farm as poults. My youngest son and I did our first set up of the coop and run.....it was a great project for us to do together ...he was 9 yrs old then. Since then we have had a couple of hatchings and we even supplemented the natural hatch with a group from the incubator we borrowed from a friend. When one of the Lenny broody periods was on bad eggs, I ordered day old chicks by mail and put them under Lenny at night. All of these methods have been a success for us. Why or how do I have 3 groups??? Well....I will tell you. The original four you have been introduced to. So the second and third are as follows: The incubator bunch from last Spring.... we have three ...... a Plymouth Rock - Athena, another Black Americauna - The Bird TWO, and one unidentified mix....Sassy. Sassy and Athena are our friendly pet girls....they want human contact and attention. LOL.... So we give it to them. The 3rd group in our flock is another 4 ..... from mypetchicken mail order.... late last summer. One Delaware - Matilda, a LT Brahma - Fluffy, a red brown xlink - Wilma and a Austra White - Henny Penny. We placed these four babies under Lenny when her eggs were determined to be bad. Lenny is a perfect mother and she helps with having everyone in the flock integrate and get along well. I think 10 is the perfect number for us.....as generally get between 7-8 eggs a day. So now ....I have started selling the eggs to neighbors to help pay for the ORGANIC only feeds and treats I give to our girls. Everybody loves visiting the girls when they visit the humans ....LOL. We have a nice set up and I enjoy sitting out in the back observing and talking to the gang. If you are ever having a bad day or just want to wind down....visit your flock....and all will be well.
That is my story for now. :jumpy Gone to the Birds!

Hey DS! Thank you! I just introduced the swing. Not much interest in it right now. I also hang whole cabbages from the same attachment. They like the cabbage toy/treat much better. I am still working on my set up. The small beige color coop was for the original four. We moved to the larger brown barn and run pictured in the back right. The gray barn ...is where I store supplies, tools, etc... . I am removing and selling the small coop. The best part of my set up...I think is the location. We have a huge American Holly tree .... so that offers the girls lots of protection and shade all the year round. They have lots of room to roam and explore in my yard which is fenced in. Thanks for the look see! :jumpy Gone to the Birds
