Hello, I just went out back to see why by Buff Orp was making a fuss- usually she's spotted the neighbor's cat and wants us to chase him away. Well Stella the Black Australope is gone. No trace. Daisy the BO was making a fuss and looking over the fence and the Ameracauna pullet we have was hiding in the kids playhouse. They were barely out 20 minutes, and there is no trace.
We lost a pullet about two months ago, also no trace, and a crying partner pullet. We assumed it was a hawk as there was no trace and she was small still. But I didn't think a hawk would take a full grown hen. And they were supposedly under cover of a few apple trees, at least that is where my Buff Orp was.
Any ideas what I am dealing with and what to do? Chickens live in a very nice run all day, and usually come out to free range when we get home from work for a few hours in the late afternoon early evening. We live in a semi rural area in Northern California.
