OK I have 16 chicks NOW my mom got them, But i'm planning on getting 45 chicks- 15 bantams, 15 regular sized chickens, and fifteen super-sized chicks. I'm getting a strait run so I can user it for a experiment seeing, if only a few weeks, chick's weight changing can predict the gender if your in doubt. I don't the way to tell 15 of one breed apart. I don't know what breeds I'm getting. I don't know what I'm going to keep 45 chicks in while they are young(I plan to sell them when they are grown) and keep them warm. I don't know where to get fifteen DAY-OLD chicks of a single breed, never mind fifteen of each of three breeds all day old. These are only the things I know i need figure out, HELP ME!!! javascript:insert_text('fl',%20'');

You can order large amounts of the same breed through any hatchery. Also most feed and grain stores that carry chicks are willing to order for you if you let them know what you are looking for before they place their store order.

good luck

It wouldn't be hard to tell the breeds apart if you plan accordingly. You could pick most any breed for either one and just pick a different color for the other breed. Like it would be easy to tell cochin bantams, rir standards, and black jersey giants apart. I also think you will find that for the most part the young cockerels will weigh more but not consistently enough to sex them accurately by weight. Also assuming you will get a 50/50 mix of cockerels/pullets you'll have a hard time rehoming that many roosters. You shouldn't have a problem keeping 45 chicks warm in a brooder. You should plan on what you are going to do with 45 grown chickens if they don't sale.

Be careful with your experiment. It may turn into a real nightmare. Please read up on chicken care here on BYC before you get in too deep.
