I live in Alabama, and it's predicted that we are going to get hit by Isaac when it reaches category 1 level. (70+ MPH winds)

How can I prepare to protect my chickens? I obviously can't bring all of them into my house with me... :(

We still have a few days before it gets here.

Advice?

anchor the coop to the ground. business as usual until its closer, then lock them up with food and water and ride it out. if you use an open air coop, put something up to block the open areas from wind and wind driven rain. remember plastic will shred, wood is always better.

Anchor the coop, close all open areas. If you can move your coop move next to the house and then anchor it. If you don't feel they are secure try to find dog kennels and put as many as you can inside them and inside the house. good luck.

What kind of coop is it? Can you move it?

We get hurricanes here and I have a 66 lb. ark coop. I had a dream a tornado hit it and lifted it off the ground and the chickens were hovering inside it (how nutty is that!).

If it were me - I'd move them inside somewhere like a garage, bathroom, basement? Otherwise, anchor the heck out of it and keep wind from getting under it if that is possible depending on your coop style. How high up is it? Will the area flood?
