Good Breed for 4-H Showing?

My younger sister is starting chicken showing. I need advice on a good breed, my mother is willing to pay for an expensive bantam. Anyone have any thoughts? We need one that can fit in with a large flock.

No showing experience, just make sure you get a show breed and not a hatchery stock.

I would get multiple birds, and not have them mixed on with other birds. That would even if other birds are of similar size. You are going to want to keep feathers protected from social discord and likely work to tame the birds to intense handling without being stressed.

For starters I would go with one of the clean legged birds, best quality available, and as centrarchid suggests more than one and housed separately from the large fowl. Any possibility of attending a poultry show and deciding which breed is most attractive to your sister ?

She is 7, I thought they may be good. I have a rooster and a few RIR hens already.

For my personal taste, I think that Dutch are the prettiest, but in reality it depends upon which breed your sister best likes the look of.

I have had RIR bantams. They are attractive, hardy, and my strain were good broody mamas.
