Then I would go with Ameraucanas as others have mentioned. We raise them for eggs
I have Easter Eggers, White Faced Black Spanish, Gold laced Wyandottes, Red Stars, Buff Orphingtons and Golden DeathLayers. I suggest the Buff Orphingtons. They get along with the other girls. I just ordered 6 Buff Orphingtons Roos. I'm looking forward to getting more gentle, loving Buffs.Hi! As I mentioned in an earlier post, we were thinking of getting new chicks in spring. We have some black and red sexlinks, and some americanas. What other breeds should we try to target? (Though, who knows what we'll be able to get, cause we were barely able to get sexlinks...most of the stores sold out.)
Be very careful not to have any potentially even moderately aggressive breeds with Orpingtons, as they can be extremely docile and get terribly harrassed. I have even had bossy Barred Plymouth Rocks! Orphingtons may not be a good idea for my flock...I have some bossy birds. We have three docile Americanas who never have any tail feathers due to pecking. They are very sweet, mild birds. My sex-links are kinda mean.Be very careful not to have any potentially even moderately aggressive breeds with Orpingtons, as they can be extremely docile and get terribly harrassed. Then I would get rid of the mean/bossy birds. Large breeds mean more maintenance, as in poop removal, more feed consumption etc.Orphingtons may not be a good idea for my flock...I have some bossy birds. Yeah, I'm thinking we raise some more chickens and get rid of the bullies. We need a decent amount of chickens cause we go through a lot of eggs. Then I would get rid of the mean/bossy birds. Large breeds mean more maintenance, as in poop removal, more feed consumption etc.
