Hey all!
I’m a new chicken mama with 4 eight week old Easter Eggers. I’m hoping to pick up their new coop tomorrow from my local Tractor Supply. What do you guys think? I’ll also have a separate, larger mobile run that I’ll put them in from time to time and move them around my yard so they can explore/forage. See pics and let me know your thoughts! Thank you!!

Agreed it is much too small. What percentage of their day would be spent free ranging or ranging in a very large run (not the one shown)?
It would differ day to day. I don’t want to give them complete free range in fear of hawks, dogs..etc. I’m in the suburbs, not rural. So I’m more cautious.

Yeah, these coops normally go to people in the suburbs and then they upgrade after a year. I think a good way to go is always with the upcycled children's playhouse. You can find them used and they are typically a good size and cute for a small yard. Build a decent sized run attached and you're in business!

The run is 6ft long and 4 ft. Wide. Coop not sure of but yeah maybe looks too small. Crazy the info on the coop says good for 6-8 hens!
The coop would probably work if you added a run attachment with 20 sq ft. Then each hen would have around 10 sq ft of space each. Do you know if there is 4 ft of roost space? Each hen needs about a foot of roost bar.

Most what advertised on prefab coop are misleading of how much chickens can be kept. Their best with 2-3 birds. 2 usually. Ironically those size spec are more perfect for bantam breed.

You could buy a storage shed kit and convert it into a chicken coop. It more spacious and that option would give you a coop that last a long time. Usually prefab coop are poor quality where it eventually breaks apart.

That might be good for 1-2 chickens
