Good Egglayers?

As far as pretty chickens, (but not unusual) that lay well would have to be the Light brown Leghorn, also called brown leghorn. I really do not think you will find anyone argue that the LBL is a bad looking bird. They do lay white eggs and not the brown eggs, however.

Wait, are EE's the same as Araucacna chickens? Do you know somewhere I can get them without having to buy a large quantity?

1): Hatcheries sell EEs are Auracaunas, but real Auras are different. EEs lay blue, green, pink or sometimes white eggs.
2) MyPetChicken.com lets you order as few as 3 chicks. Or, alternatively, you can split an order with another person. Or, depending on your state laws, you can get some from the feed store. (Maine has a minimum of 6)

We have 5 Silkies--2 Hens 3 Roo's (Bart of a mixed box-o-chix) and the girls DO seem "broody>.. but if you pick them up they stay off the nest and let you take the eggs...

the MALES often will be broody and protect the nest too- but not aggressivly.

They are all sweet & have personalities all their own..

but if you are looking for egg layers-- I'd go with Wyandottes, Rocks or Leghorns... Silkies are sold mostly as "pets" or for breeding/showing.

Okay! I looked on that website but they don't have any chicks for sale right now. I found some chickens on craigslist but they are Americauna are they similiar?

I agree with Mamma Cluck...Wyandottes are great layers and so are Australorps (avg yearly egg total is 260). Check here http://www.araucana.net/ for info on the true Araucana breeds. Most in the US of A are Araucana/Ameraucanas mixes. I've read that many going by the name Araucana don't actually meet even half of the requirements of the actual Araucana breed hence the name Easter Eggers. The interbreeding gives us the great colored eggs. This site http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGA/Arau/BRKAraucanas.html will tell you about them too.

If you're going to get chicks, I'd buy from a hatchery. You don't know what your getting on craigslist or any advertisement for that matter. If you want true breeds, purchase from a hatchery who will stand behind what they are selling you. Anywhere else and you're likely to be SOL.

Thanks! I really hope I think I am leaning towards getting an Easter Egg chicken. I think it would be neat to have different coloured eggs. If anyone knows somewhere I can get them without buying tons please tell me! Thanks again!

Wait for the spring, maybe march or late february. Hatcheries will have them and that way it will be warm enough when the chicks are big enough to live outside.
I'm so happy for you! EEs are wonderful birds. They have many different colors and are always surprising. And they have REALLY CUTE CHICKS!
Here are some of our EEs. You can check out the story of Fatima in my signature line.
