Hi to all from a somewhat cold Free State in South Africa.
It is winter here now, so in the mornings we are sitting at -5 to -8 deg C.
I am new to the chicken scene.
I currently have 2 Rhode Island Red hens, a koekoek Rooster and 15 eight day old Rhode Island Red chicks.
I have read and learned a lot so far on this website and it will sure help me a lot in future as well.
Next project is incubating eggs.
I build my own incubator from wood, pc fans, 2 x 40watt globes and a thermostat, and space for 3 trays that can accomodate 50 eggs with ease.
I am going to speak to a couple of farmers around here to keep some eggs for me. Will try with 10 or so first before filling up the tray.
I am also planning on building a nice chicken coop in the near future for the outside chickens.
They currently have all the protection they need, but I want to make it like a 5 star chicken hotel.
The happier the chicken, the happier the egg.
Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this site so far to assist all our newbie's.
Continue the great work and knowledge sharing.
Werner
