Which is better, sand or hay? I currently use hay, but I'm not sure what they would like better. They stay in their coop a lot because I can't really give them freedom with all the predators around my house, so the least I could do is make their coop a luxury mansion.

Do you mean flooring for inside the coop or for the run? I have read that some use sand for both. I use sand and dirt for the run and wood shavings for the inside of the coop.

I have a dirt run right now..but when everything dries out, i will be putting sand/stone in there. And i use hay for the coop.

I'm brand new at this, but so far the flooring in the coop is the ground, so dirt. I also put down some pine shavings to soak up any excess moisture and help get rid of the smell. In the run, we put down some extra turf rolls that my husband had from his job. (Although those are quickly turning into just dirt). It's been working decently so far. :)

In all the reading I did, hay was not recommended because it can hinder digestion?

This past week we put in recycled concrete sand in the bottom of the coop. We prefer this over the previous flooring so far.
