Just remember that the Sex link chickens won't breed true if you ever want to breed them. Not sure if that will be important to you or not.
I have Black Copper Marans in the bator right now and they are supposed to be a quiet breed from what I've read. My Ameraucanas are really quiet, too. I only hear them when they SEE ME and want some attention. I've even been in the run when an egg or two were laid and I didn't hear a loud ruckus to announce it. My Lavender Orpington Roo only crows when he is doing his job of protecting his girls when I'm taking too long to get out of the run or if he sees them squabbling. No crowing at 6:30 am or earlier. YAY!!
My Ameraucanas each lay every other day at least, some laying every day and they are sweet natured. They have also done well in both warm and cold temps. I can't say how they'd do shipping since mine came from a wonderful woman here on BYC instead of a hatchery.
If you only want to start with a few chickens instead of a hatchery's minimum order of 15, you could try looking on Craigslist or at the local farmer's market; even posting here on BYC for some. You'd be surprised at what you can find locally in your own area.
