Good idea or bad idea...???

I'm considering buying French copper maran & Ameraucana eggs to try to hatch on my own. This would be my first experience at incubating eggs. I only want about 12. Is this a wise thing to do since I have read on several posts that some- to most- of their mail-order eggs weren't good. This is a lot of money to pay for eggs that may or maynot be good. Is this typical of buying eggs to hatch? I need your wisdom on this.

A 50% hatch rate for shipped eggs is considered really good. They go through a lot in the mail. I have had worse rates and I have had better. Also a lot depends on how reliable your incubator is. If you can find eggs locally it would be much better.
