So here I am again whining about this silly ramp and getting my ducks to use it...

Yesterday we just opened the coop door and went to work and by the time we got home they were in the run! They used the ramp on their own!!

Then as dark started to fall I had to wrangle them up by hand to get them back in the coop. This is the worst part of everyone's day....Especially the ducks!

Today I left their food inside the coop (water is in the run as well as the swimming hole) in hopes that they may start going UP the ramp.

There are plenty of bugs and grass for them to nibble on... but did I make the right decision by keeping the food in the coop so they have to work for it??

As I typed this i realized how neurotic i have become about these **** ducks! Just this morning I thought I was going to burst into tears watching them waddle DOWN the stupid ramp! It made me so happy!!

I keep the food in the coop. Normally mine have no problem going into the coop at night. They don't like going in until it is completely dark out though.

They go in on their own? Maybe I should just leave it alone and let them figure it out...

Okay this is what is happening they have your number now so when you are watching they wont use the ramp because they know you'll be upset. when you aren't there they probably dance up and down the ramp do back flips off of it and summer salts. as soon as you drive up it's back too not being able to go up the ramp. LOL just kidding with you. Learned behavior takes time they will figure it out. and if you have meal worms sprinkle some on the ramp all the way to inside the door to give incentive .When my mama hens take their little ones out for the first week they cannot figure out the ramp back in she is in their chirping and calling to them and they just run all around the coop trying to figure out where she is, I am sitting there watching all of this wondering when I should get up and help. Finally when all but 2 makes it inside and these last 2 are frantic I get up and pick them up and put them in. And when they finally get it on their own well it's a big day here.
