Hi I would like to know if you guys think Buff orpingtons are good first time broody mothers. I want to try and hatch out golf balls because I am in the city and can not have roos but I want the mother to take care of the chicks. So do you think this is a good idea or not the other thing is if not the best breed what do you think is?

Orps do just fine at it but some will be better than others.

If you want a breed that will hatch a lot then Cochins or Silkies are best.

If you just want one that does the best job at raising the young then you want a game hen. Just dont think you are going to get to touch those babies.
