Good Morning Fellow Goose Owners

Good Morning Goose Friends,
I have a 5 year old goose, that was someone's pet that I rescued, Gilby (pictured) that recently lost his mate that he was with for about a year. I think she may have been egg bound because she had no marks or blood on her body. It has been really hard on him and he has been very clingy during feeding time and tries to build a nest around my feet. He stays near the gate entrance making sad honks and trying to get out with me when I leave. It is heartbreaking. There are other females that have shown interest in him, but he ignores them. I was hoping/wondering if he will take another mate eventually?

Some birds can and do mourn over the loss of their mates. I am so sorry about your goose. But I would imagine over time this bird will take on a new mate.

Well, well wouldn't ya know...today he was hanging with a group (a white bonded pair and a FEMALE!) and ignored me pretty much after he ate. So, so glad he is adjusting

Yes, indeed they are very loyal animals. He guarded her for hours after she passed, until I came with breakfast. How can you not love and admire that...

I sure am glad to see I am not the only one obsessed with feathered creatures

I think Gilby finally realized you wouldn't make a good mate,since you weren't impressed when he tried to make a nest around your feet. Try not to take it to hard.

He decided to move on- may he and his new love have many goslings.

LOL- yep, he's a heartbreaker all right, especially with that enormous lump on his beak!
Well anyways, I was getting tired of his love bites bruising up my arms
