I have a pair of geese. He has been giving me grief for a good 2 months now. I can deal with it and handle him but I am noticing my female seems tired. He follows her close, guards her when she eats-they are with 7 ducks. I have watched them in the kiddie pools he does try to mate with her. The times I have noticed she tolerates it for a bit but kicks him away after a bit. He does not seem to go after her at all. I have not seen him pick on her or attack her. But he is just ALWAYS close by her. I could be giving them human traits but she seems like she could use a break from him. Is goose jail a thing? He would NOT be happy about it-he is VERY vocal and protective of her. One day she got out of the fenced area, he was freaking out honking and running into the fence to be by her. She was calmly eating grass not really bothered by his absence. He was NOT happy.

He was crazy about a month ago, chilled out for awhile and now he is over the top crazy again. She is laying eggs and I take them daily. Should I let her try to be a mama? She has been sneaking in the duck hut to lay her eggs lately. I cannot let her stay in there with the ducks...or do I? I cannot allow him in there at night. He is being too mean. When does this mating stuff end? ugh!!!!!!!!

Do I get another female goose?

As long as you take the eggs, she will continue to lay depleting her resources. His behavior is the normal behavior of a gander during the breeding season.

If I would let her keep them, and she lays them in the duck nest, can I move them to her hut? How long should I leave the egg or eggs if she doesn't sit on them right away? She lays an egg about every other day. I don't mind them having goslings, honestly I would LOVE it. I just haven't really put much thought into it.

Should I just wing it and let nature take over? (just not in the duck hut)

It was cute when I found her giant egg in with the ducks egg nest. Does she want to sit on the duck eggs? I could let her sit in the duck hut and just keep the gander in the goose hut alone at night. She was raised with the ducks and is pretty calm with them.

I just want to do the right thing for them.
