I'm not new to owning chickens, but I am new to raising chickens the right way. When I was a kid, I had a bantam black cochin and several Belgian D'uccle Mille Fleurs. I loved having them, but I realize now that I could have handled their care much better. Right this moment, I'm still in the planning stages of starting up my own flock. I don't have any chicks, I want to be completely prepared before jumping back into the hobby, so I've been scouring the coop design pages and drawing up designs for a coop that will work for our family. When I do have a coop built and all my supplies ready I'm considering getting a variety of breeds for a whole spectrum of egg colors.
I found BYC.com a couple of years ago through Google, but never made an account. Too shy I guess, or too far away from my goal of owning chickens again. The resources here are amazing.
I'm a homemaker and mom of one, a 15 month old little girl who is constantly surprising me with the things she learns and does. My husband works in the IT industry in Omaha, Nebraska, which is where we live. We own two indoor cats. I'm hoping to start college this fall. In my free time I crochet, do a little bit of gardening, digital art and crafts. I'm also an avid gamer. From pen and paper to PC, I like mostly RPG fantasy.
