Welcome to BYC! :frow Yes the 250W heat lamp is a bit overdone for my location at any time of the year. I have moved on to https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-heating-pad.67728/?page=2#ams-comment-510338 and it only consumes up to 40w per hour for mine. My first batch somehow survived the heat lamp and we were constantly kept busy dealing with issues related to it dehydration to pastybutt. That 13 dollar heating pad has reared 3 generations of chicken now. Without any follow on health issues. Please give @Blooie's article a read there is a much better way. Cheap and effective.
