Good morning.
I am happy to say that I am a new member as of this morning and I am so excited about being here.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
No not new to chickens, had R.I.Rs before.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Right now none, by next spring I hope to have eight. 4 Barred
rocks and 4 black Australopes.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Good old Mother Earth News. Can I have a Woop Woop?
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, reading, reading. Researching what I want to learn.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am married with two daughters one just finished her first year in FFA and is going to show a heffer and a pig and maybe a rabbit in the fair next year. The heffer and the pig are kept at her boyfriend's family house for us. We do not have the land for it. The rabbits and the chickens I will have. We will all share in the production of these animals. My youngest will not be able to join FFA until high school, she is just starting Jr. High this year. However, she will be learning not only from her big sister but also her big sister's boyfriend and his family. Which my the way his dad is big into FFA and has won several awards when he was a member in his high school days. At one time we did have rabbits, but because we had to move I could not take them with us. Five years later I now have the ability to start over again with chickens and rabbits and yes my own kitchen garden. We have two dogs (Lab and Chow mix) one cat (Minx) and one Beta fish. My husband things I am crazy to start this again however he does support my endeavor. We want to become self-suficient and know where our food is coming from. We are also looking to raise organic livestock and fruits and vegies. Some day I hope to own some acreage in Northern Florida where we can also have a fully stocked fish pond. I look forward to chatting with all of you, and be prepared I am sure I will have plenty of questions.
Have a wonderful day. Oh have you hugged your chicken today?
