Good nesting material?

I have had serveral broken/fractured eggs and I am getting sick of it. I once did have sugar cane mulch in the nexting boxes but my chooks stratched it all out. Any suggestions?

I just use an inch of pine shavings with a lip so they cant scratch it out and have yet to find a cracked egg.

I use coastal bermuda hay... works great, weaves together nice and tight...

My hens love shavings. I do not have cracked eggs. I put in about three inches in nest box.

I've always used wheat straw. The hens seem to like it, no cracked eggs, it's cheap & it keeps the eggs clean too.

I have put some of the cane mulch I had left and some shreded up dead leaves into the nesting boxes. Hopefully it will do.
