good news and a slight concern..!

Again, if she didnt internally pip, she didnt suffocate. This hatch isnt going too well, I'm sorry you lost another :hugs
I had this too. I had a quail chick who was moving about, I waited a day or two, and then no more movement. When I opened the egg I saw she'd passed away. Heartbreaking, but she never internally pipped. Nothing I could've done, and nothing you couldve done either.
Wouldn't they pass away from not being able to get air or do they just lose strength and pass away?
I love quails, they are adorable. I'm so sorry you lost that one.

Apologies, it's difficult to see but there is a faint shadow with no movement. I heard faint tapping but only once.
My light is bright and couldn't set the egg on it so it was all covered so thats why it's difficult to see..

And no bruises anywhere, I looked everywhere on the egg and I don't see any.
That egg looked like it should
If baby didn’t make it into the membrane there really isn’t anything you could have done to help
How do you know baby died ? Did you open it up ?

Yes I had opened it because when I candled the top of the egg, I saw no veins and no movement. I made a small hole and was about to stick a q-tip with coconut oil in the hole and put it on the membrane and there were no veins and I opened the hole more and she was stiff and wouldn't move.
I ended up finding her head, she also had her head tucked in her belly. Her wing was right at the air cell.

That’s what happened to me with my last batch
You did what you could and honesty there is nothing you could have done to help

I went to go check on Lovebug and noticed two little pieces of egg shell fell off although his beak isn't near the crack he made earlier.

Will the membrane be okay? Do I need to put anything on it to keep it from drying out?

And if he doesn't make an external pip by the 24 hour mark (which will be 3pm, it's 1:32pm here), I'm assuming I make the safety hole in the air cell rather than the crack he made ABOVE the air cell?
EDIT: I can see what looks to be his beak under the crack and hes pushing and tapping but he hasn't cracked the egg yet! I can see something still moving in the air cell, not sure what part of his body it is lol.

I made a safety hole in the air cell. There were two figures that looked like beaks moving in the air cell but I wasn't sure which one was the real beak so I just made a hole in between them.
I couldn't see the beak from the safety hole but good thing I made a safety hole, the air cell was terribly small.

How long after the safety hole is made do I assist further if no progress?
I was able to stay out of school today to make sure the ducklings hatched safely but I wont be able to any more and if Lovebug doesn't make any progress by tonight, would it be okay to make the hole bigger?
His shell was pretty tough to get through, took me a while to make the safety hole for him. Clove and Lilac's eggs were pretty easy to get through.
