So, I lost my poor sweet Webster earlier this week, leaving poor Bill alone. I found a bonded pair of Khaki Campbells that I will pick up tomorrow. I need advice. First, just to be clear, Bill is FEMALE (she lays eggs). So the bonded pair is a male and a female. The gentleman selling them didn't want to break up the pair. What do I need to know? Any advice? Frankly, having a boy scares me to death (I don't know why). So any information or advice you can offer is welcome.

Thanks

I have one drake and 3 hens. Having a drake doesn't need to be scary. He really loves his ladies. He takes them all to the fresh food and water and lets them eat and drink their fill before he has any. He rounds them up and leads them into their house or stands between me and his ladies or leads his ladies away from my dogs. They really can love and look out for and nurture their girls. Boys can be dominant and assertive without being mean. Take the introductions slowly. I'm sure others can give you good tips on introducing them. Hopefully he will look after your dear Bill for you.

Also it's hard to say how "bonded" the pair you are getting is. No one wants to have too many drakes and not enough hens, so often they will only sell them in pairs or trios or give you a free drake with the purchase of a hen, it's their way of keeping their own numbers/ratios in check.

Good luck!
