Today I am sitting on my backside enjoying a good book when my rescued rottwieler who has only recently been allowed off leash with my chickens. (She has not earned the job of chicken superviser yet.) Goes off like a chainsaw in my living room. Charging my 6x9 window ticked off! I jump up and see a large domestic cat 10 feet or so from my grazing ladies. The cats in my hood are just that. Cats in the hood. So, I do not know how tough they are. I let the rotty and both cocker spaniels ( who are 120% safe with my chickens) out the back door............... The cat gave himself away and the chickens ran for the safety of my house and the rotty chased the cat away from her flock. I do believe the kitty had to change its pants after that.
Now, you may think that is what dogs do with cats. No its not. This girl, if you tell her they are ok. They are ok! Period. She has brought to me, two 5 wk old kittens that got into my yard and dropped them at my feet slobbery and safe. I do not even know if she had ever seen a cat before. But they were babies and she brought them to me.
I am so proud of her for protecting the girls and letting me know what was outside.
I free range in my back yard an hour to four a day. I am always home at this time and can see 98% of my yard from all my main rooms. Many times I have one spaniel out with them or both. But today, they were inside with me. As you can see the dogs still pay attention to the yard and their family no matter what.
And yes............... she enjoyed the ribeye steak she had for dinner. yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
