I've read up a bit on treats you can give your quail to supplement, but haven't seem much specifically about chicks. I'm brooding my first batch right now and wanted to introduce something else besides just the processed feed. 3 of the birds hatched last Monday, 1 hatched on Wednesday.

Does anybody give treats to their young birds? Is there anything you definitely have to avoid for risk of them choking? I have a mealworm farm going and I thought about filtering out some of the young worms but I didn't know if they would have trouble digesting them since I haven't put any grit in the brooder yet.

If you feed anything but chick feed, you should give them grit.
Start with soft foods. Boiled or scrambled egg, mashed up into tiny bits, is an ideal treat. Nutritious and tasty.

Don't give them dairy products, no.
And treats should make up 5-10% of their diet, more like 5% in chicks. The rest of their diet should be a high-protein gamebird feed.
