Good ways to keep sand in the outside run from freezing in the winter.

I've thought about using a heat lamp in the run when it snows to keep the sand dry or from freezing. The sand for the most part stays dry when it rains unless the rain is blowing in to the run. What are some other alternatives to keep the sand from freezing?

Move somewhere it doesn't freeze?
Kidding, but really.... a heat lamp is not the answer, I don't think there is an answer.
A good reason not to use sand as a run bedding in cold climates.

How big is your run?
Dimensions and pics would be most helpful here.

Also....

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

My out door run is 6 foot by 8 foot. It’s big and not moveable. It does have a metal roof over it. That keeps out a lot of rain in the summer months.
