I'm posting in this forum because I have some flock questions at the end of the story. I have rehomed the 6 month old Croad Langshan cockerel to a friend that has 3 hens that have lived with a roo before. My sister was scared of him, but he was a good boy so far.

I took him to the friends and we put him in her barn and showed him the food and water and let him wander for a while, then she brought her 3 girls in. NO fighting occurred! 2 of the girls squatted for him. She is hoping for her girls to go broody and hatch chicks. If not, she is going to add more girls in the spring.

Is this odd? Ive always thought that it was very disruptive to integrate chickens. But her hens actually seemed happy to have him. All day yesterday, they have stuck together like glue, and roosted close together all night.

When I was planning on integrating (or attempting to) a new roo (turned out to be two gifted to me) into my flock, with my existing roo, I did an obscene amount of research and was prepared for worst case scenario. My original roo is an ex cockfighting rescue and I had no idea if he would go crazy with another male on his turf.

Not one single fight. Not one. Not even a squabble. Lol. Everyone plays nice, shares, minds their manners and even roost together.

As fowl folk we should always be prepared for the worst, but it's absolutely lovely when things go as planned- or better than planned!

My friend has been sending me videos and pictures. The girls have been taking Chief around and showing him all the good spots on their property. They all snuggled down under a bush after foraging and all went in the barn at dusk to roost tightly together. I cant be happier with how this worked out.
