Thanks Lyn,
Will check out that breed. I have looked at the prefab coops but feel that they are all too flimsy, so have determined to build my own. Hubbie and I have just finished building a pergola with a laserlite lid, so will probably build the coop to reflect the same style as it will be in full view of that area. And yes, definitely will have access to the nesting boxes externally.
I am in Wantirna and have a pocket handkerchief of a backyard, so space is at a premium. I also have access to a large grassed area where I will be able to utilise a tractor as I don't have any grass on my house block. All pine bark and ground covers.
Had initially considered placing the coop on the South side of the house, but figured it might be too cold through winter, so am now going to put it on the North side at the back where it will get sun both summer and winter. Will add extra insulation to protect against the extreme heat of summer. That means that it will be in full sight of our entertaining area, so the coop will have to look 'cute'.
So that is where I am up to. Have prepared, as in levelled off, the area where it is to be placed, and am now finalising the actual design. Am going to make it large enough to house more chooks than I actually want in case I change my mind and get more or have more 'happen'. I won't be intentionally getting a roo but you just can't be too sure, it seems.

Couldn't keep one, anyway. The neighbours would throttle me.
Whereabouts are you located?
Cheers
Deb
