Goodness! My hens went crazy over a tomato.

They will also LOVE watermelon, cukes, zucchini, apples, you name it. I have read to avoid potato peels though. I gave cherry tomatoes to my hens last summer and they would grab and run. I had plenty for everyone though. They weren't as crazy about some other leaves of the cabbage family plants though. I thought it would be a good source of calcium for them to have broccoli leaves, but they just let them lay there. Funny thing though, my young chickens that I had there were just out of the brooder weren't interested at all in any produce.

Mine go mad for the cauliflour leaves we eat cauliflour out the middle, before getting chickens we would have thrown the leaves as no good for anything else, now theres no waste and hangs well in the cage, mine also have corn on the cob hung in the cage this is also a favourite

Every other day mine get a ration of sliced apple, pear, banana, tomato, lettuce, cucumber and wheat bread to supplement their diet. Works for me. Kelso

Ours will knock you down to get to tomatoes and other fresh veggies. Even in Summer, you'd never know they have a whole field of green stuff and bugs as they race toward you! LOL

I try to keep anything like that to 10% or less of their diet. Not only can too much cause soft runny stools, it can reduce their laying if it's enough to knock their protein intake below16%. We feed 20% pellets to offset the lesser protein in their treats.
